Jean Steckle Public School to Open in 2013 - Great News for Huron Village Residents

This new Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 school will be located at 130 Woodbine Avenue (Woodbine & Seabrook Drive) in South Kitchener's Huron Area.

This new school is built to accommodate JK-8; however, the attendance boundary and which grades the school will offer initially is currently under review – for more information please follow the Huron Village Boundary Study.

The New School Naming Committee selected the name through submissions made by the public.

Who is Jean Steckle?

Jean Steckle was born in the Region of Waterloo (1923-2003) and became internationally known in the areas of community development, nutrition, First Nation public health and education. Steckle Heritage Farm (located on Bleams Road) is her family’s homestead.

Principal of Jean Steckle PS, Brian Burnley chose the theme “healthy, active living and learning” for the school and the new school name is a great start to this vision!
